INTERN DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Design Assistant
This is an unpaid position and involves a real learning opportunity. Hours are flexible can be part time. Commitment term is 6 to 8 weeks and can be extended.
Activities
1. Assist Design Planning and Execute Follow up : Working with designer, observing translation of key trends and product concepts into innovative new products:
a. Grasping and understanding company market positioning statements, product benefits and identifying targeted demographics for new concepts
b. Coordinating with designer to obtain product samples at target costs from sources
c. Coordinating specs, line sheets, and CAD with Designer
d. Observing manufacturer to understand manufacturing process and capabilities
e. Assisting in product development process, fabric design, pre-production, production release and QC, to ensure projects stays on schedule.
f. Help create story boards, line sheets, catalogs and collateral sales literature
g. Assessing knit designs, stitch development, silhouette and fiber/ fabric compatibility
2. Marketing / Customer Service / Sales assistance: Following up on sales orders, incoming phone calls, and contacting customers for potential feedback, and other customer follow up.
a. Contribute to identifying key demographic, lifestyle, fashion, accessories and product trends.
b. Observe the company’s development of a marketing and product strategy consistent with key
trends of the season. Trends will be identified via trade show brochures, store visit reports, marketing publications, magazines and other relevant media sources.
3. Analyze competitive products/strengths/weaknesses through industry publications and information gained through the sales force and trade show information.
a. Examine sales and consumer research to evaluate consumer feedback to new sample lines.
4. Creative observation: Evaluate product line-up and identify new product opportunities. Understand consumer needs/usage of product line. Thinking outside the box, to take advantage of new technologies, company’s intellectual property and new product ideas.
5. Other duties as assigned.
